Priceless Travel Tips from our contributing Road Warriors• DO: Talk to strangers. You’ll end up surprised by their stories and the potential adventures they bring you.• DO: Keep a journal. Even if you’re not a journal-er, in the future you will be thankful for recording the details of your experience.• DO: Always have a water bottle and extra granola bars. You never know when you’re going to accidentally wander off the hiking trail.• DO: Carry reading material: You may get caught in a mountain cabin during a storm or stuck in an airport for a 6-hour layover. Bring along something interesting.• DO: Spend some time wandering unguided. Whether it’s further exploration of something your guide pointed out or doing your  rst run through of a new place on your own, take time to wander without a destination and discover your own treasures. The things you  nd on your own, often end up leading to the most magical experiences of all.by Mackenzie Lowry• DO: Do your research, then leave the travel book in the hotel.I was in Hong Kong for the  rst time many years ago,and was offered 2 choiceson where to sit and eat. My choice, spoken in broken Cantonese and English, was to sit on a plastic bucket atthe side of the road with the market workers. My wifeand I were served before the tourists, our food portions seemed larger and I remember my mug of beer rarely being empty.• DO: Get up early and cram it all in. If there is a locationI absolutely must see, I’llgo either  rst thing in the morning or last thing at night.• DO: Travel light. Most countries and cities have government website where you can  nd about warnings, advice or precautions to take before arriving.• DO: Pack a lot of black clothes. If you want to add a couple of colorful silk scarves which you can wear multiple ways. Try to pack at least one pair of high heel shoes, a pair of running shoes, hiking boots and sandals.• DO: Make a travellingkit with your prescriptions medicines, glasses, contact lens and solution.
